The New Moon partial Solar Eclipse at 18″42′ of Leo occurred at 3:58am (MST). Solar Eclipses happen when the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun; blocking the light of the Sun from our view and casting a Moon shadow on the Earth. Symbolically the lunar energy is dominating for a period of time allowing us to feel deeply while the solar energy of self expression, authority and confidence is muted. This Eclipse is a New Moon; a time of new beginnings and seed planting related to how we confidently, enthusiastically and courageously express our needs and emotions. Eclipses herald sweeping changes which can be felt for up to 6 months after they occur. The house where it occurs in our charts will inform us of the area of life in which this energy will manifest.
The theme of the Eclipse is feeling our self expression. Leo Moon energy responds to the world and seeks security through proud, creative, graceful and determined expression. This Eclipse allows us shed the old ways of hindering our self expression and stepping into feeling a connection to our vibrant inner fire! Overall this time is giving us a big confidence boost!
The chart of the Eclipse shows the Leo Moon and Sun conjuncting Mercury retrograde. Mercury, the planet of thinking and communication, in retrograde assists us in reviewing the theme of communication in our lives. Pay attention to the pieces of insight available, but clear answers or the ability to clearly communicate our position may not come until after Mercury moves direct on August 18th. The Leo Eclipse is squaring Jupiter in Scorpio. Jupiter is the planet that symbolizes expansion, philosophical growth and optimism while Scorpio relates to our desires and takes us deep into areas of the unconscious and asks us to transform. From Moonkissd, “Jupiter, planet of expansion, now in Scorpio (transformation) is square this eclipse, so we may feel we’ve outgrown the pot in which we are planted. Is there something new we want to bring in – because it would feel good to spread our wings and fly?”
The Moon and Sun in Leo quincunx Neptune in Pisces and Pluto in Capricorn suggesting themes related to compassion and transformation need to find balanced expression. The AstrologyKing writes, “(this energy) makes this solar eclipse a turning point in life that may be felt as a mini crisis or threat…you can make adjustments and compromises to relieve the pressure and intensity.”
Venus in Libra is square to Saturn in Capricorn and quincunx Uranus retrograde in Taurus. This energy may bring up questions as to whether we are valuing ourselves through relationship. While Venus in Libra seeks harmony and balance through relating, Saturn in Capricorn is also able to cut its losses if it is not experiencing measurable gain. The quincunx to Uranus asks that we ‘wake up’, through exciting change, to more fulfilling ways of getting our material security and relationship needs met.
Saturn in Capricorn and Uranus in Taurus trine one another at this time allowing us to integrate changes in a responsible manner. Caution and practicality combine with insight and change.
Jupiter in Scorpio trines Neptune in Pisces. This is a beautiful trine that allows us to experience expansive transformation while being compassionate and empathetic. This is an extremely spiritual energy helping us to see the bigger picture in relation to anything that requires letting go.

This is not a time to take action on the Eclipse revelations as more information continues to come through. Wait until the Moon moves in to Virgo to begin to carefully analyze our next moves.
The Moon moves into Virgo and trines Uranus in Taurus for the remainder of the night. This combination allows us to begin to clearly communicate and work towards how we want to revolutionize relationship, our values and what we need to feel secure.
